Got the idea of ‘Dare 2 Dance’ from son Aarav’s school: Akshay Kumar

Superstar Akshay Kumar, who is returning to TV with an unique talent hunt ‘Dare 2 Dance’ (D2D), says he borrowed the concept of the reality show from his recent visit to his son’s school on sports day.

The show will challenge the trained dancers to prove their mettle in extreme conditions and the contestants would not be eliminated at one go.

“I would be the host and mentor of the show which would not be shot in a studio but at outside locations. This won’t be an ordinary reality show. Here the 10 choreographers from worldwide would be challenged every time, like they have to dance on ice or at a height of 6000 feet. The level of dare would be increased from level one to level 6,” Akshay told reporters here.

The 46-year-old actor, who raises son Aarav and daughter Nitara with wife Twinkle Khanna, said, “Unlike other reality shows, here the contestants would not be eliminated if they could not perform well initially. They would be given certain chances. I have borrowed this concept when I visited my son’s school on sports day. They were given enough chances to finish a game rather than getting thrown out from the competition for not performing well.”

‘Dare 2 Dance’, which is not an adaptation of any international talent hunt, will go on air from September on Life Ok and the 16 episode series would be shot entirely in Cape Town, South Africa.

Festive offer

The ‘Holiday: A soldier is never off duty’ star would also be seen shaking a leg on the show.

“The show is not an adaptation of any international show. I will also dance. Even I won’t keep it comfortable for myself. Before giving the task to the contestants, I would go there and would try first,” said Akshay, who previously hosted reality show ‘Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi’ in 2008.

The channel feels Akshay’s tough guy image would help the show to be a hit among audience. This is the first reality show on the 30 month-old-channel.

Akshay Kumar has successfully managed to challenge the status quo with his constant need to push the envelope and move beyond the common. Through our show, we hope to bring yet another unique concept to our audience,” Ajit Thakur, general manager of the channel, said.
