Head constable's brother among 4 arrested in fake currency case

NAGPUR: Crime branch, which busted a fake currency racket in Bhandara on Wednesday, have made four more arrests on Thursday. They have also seized a computer, scanner and printer from their den in Tumsar tehsil. One of the arrested persons, whose name is yet to be disclosed, is learnt to be the elder brother of a police head constable.
The other three arrested have been identified as Vijay Lilhare, Rakesh Daware and Ritesh Meshram.Following the interrogation of Nimje, the police zeroed down on the rest of the four in Tumsar. Lilhare is learnt to be the mastermind of the racket. A section of the cops feel that the racketeers mostly used computer and printer to produce the fake notes which had similar serial numbers.
The crime branch team, under inspectors Avinash Shilimkar, Sunil Mahadik and Shivaji Gaikwad and API Mangesh Desai, constable Kuldeep Petkar and Manish Bhosale, is now set to pick up more persons from city after completing their operation in Bhandara.
The cops had earlier arrested Udaysinh Nimje on Wednesday and seized Rs 3.22 lakhs worth fake notes from him. A magistrate court has remanded Nimje till July 26. Nimje was nabbed from Golibar Chowk where he walked into a trap laid by the cops. Fake currencies worth Rs 40,000 were found in his possession while the rest were recovered from his mistress's place at Binaki Mangalwari.
Police said the fake note racket operated from Bhandara with only local links mostly in city and elsewhere in Vidarbha. The police are now trying to find the extent of the racket.
Apart from the city police, state and central's intelligence agencies too are probing the matter. The state ATS too is likely to quiz the racketeers.
