COIMBATORE: Unidentified people set a car and a motorcycle, belonging to RVS Ayurveda College principal P T Chacko, on fire at his residence at SR Iyyer Layout in Ramanathapuram here on Thursday morning.
According to police, Chacko was home alone. He woke up at 4.30am on Thursday hearing a sound from the portico and found his car and bike on fire. He raised an alarm and neighbours rushed to the house and tried to douse the fire.
Meanwhile, fire and rescue service personnel rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire. Personnel from the Ramanathapuram police station also rushed to the house. Chacko told police that he suspected the involvement of four boys of the college in the incident.
On Wednesday, July 23, a girl student of the RVS Ayurveda College was teased by four boys on campus. The girl lodged a complaint with Chacko. He conducted an inquiry with them but did not take any action against the boys. He advised the girl to bring her parents to discuss the matter. He was planning to take action against the boys after meeting with her parents. Chacko lodged a police complaint with the police who registered a case under sections 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house, etc.,) of IPC and 3 of Tamil Nadu Public Property (Prevention of Damage and Loss) (TNPPDL) act.
Following the complaint, Ramanathapuram police (law and order) and inspector KS Saravanan visited the college in Sulur on Thursday afternoon and conducted an inquiry with the four boys.
