The applications of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and her close associate Sasikala for compounding the income tax cases against them have been posted for July 28.

After counsel made this submission, R. Dakshinamurthy, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Economic Offences-I, before whom the four cases were pending, on Thursday adjourned the matter to August 7. He directed counsel to file a status report on the compounding applications at the next hearing.

When the cases came up, counsel S. Senthil filed a petition stating that the compounding applications were posted for hearing on July 11 before the Director-General of Income-Tax (Investigation), Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Ms. Jayalalithaa’s chartered accountant appeared before the authorities. Further hearing was scheduled for July 28. Hence, he sought an adjournment of the proceedings.
