As many as 10,340 seats across streams remained unallotted as the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) declared results of the second extended round of counselling for Common Entrance Test (CET) rank holders on Thursday. Engineering had the largest number of seats remaining at 9,897 of the total 65,685.
All 607 medical seats offered in the second extended round — many of them new seats — were allotted. With this, all the available 2,350 medical seats have been taken. Similarly, all the 914 dental and 2,616 farm science seats available for CET counselling are exhausted.
A look at the total statistics revealed that 63,416 seats, of the total 73,756 available across all streams, were allotted. Of the total number of seats, 22,615 were offered in the second extended round.
KEA Executive Director Rame Gowda expressed concern over the large number of seats remaining even at the end of the counselling.
However, in what could offer a ray of hope for students who passed the II PU supplementary exams (the results of which were declared on Thursday), Mr. Gowda said the KEA would explore options to hold another round of counselling for the remaining seats.
The options to download challan and admission order were uploaded on the KEA website only at 5 p.m., causing some anxious moments to candidates who had booked tickets to the places in which they had been allotted seats. The last date to report to the colleges is July 28.
The KEA has listed the next steps to be taken by the students on its website. No ‘choices’ are offered to the students after this round of counselling.
