It’s still raining romance in prime time soaps
Monsoon casts its own magic even in reel time and television soaps are not immune to its spell.
It’s that perfect season when lovebirds can get drenched in love, find their passionate moments and dance in the rain with long eyelocks and a sensuous number playing in the background like that in a soapy world. With cupid striking the main protagonists at the right monsoon-y moment, a fiercely passionate hug followed by some more loving moments are just what showmakers need to set the TVTs skyrocket northwards (after all it’s all in the numbers).

Heartbreakingly handsome heroes unsuitably clad for the monsoons (and unprepared for it) and nubile nymphs in white chiffon sarees or figure hugging churidar kurtas find love in the middle of the (un)seasonal downpour in predictable telly circumstances that often go down in history as the most watched mush monsoon sequences and stay with fans for a long time, even after the show wraps up.

Their relationship might have started on a rough note but one downpour was all it took to change the equations and give Mann (Gurmeet Choudhary) and Geet (Drashti Dhami) their first hug and put them on their way to love. The bubbly Drashti dancing in ethereal white was a visual delight as the macho hero watched her almost ensnared by her beauty as Behne De from Raavan played in the background.
Nothing can be more romantic than a long drive in the rain! As
Arohi (KritikaKamra) dried her rainswept hair, the arrogant young tycoon Arjun (Karan Kundra) realized his love for her, it was a moment copied from yesteryear Bollywood film Aradhana with an EktaKapoor twist. As the lead couple walked in the rains with the title track of the show playing in the background, Arjun drapes his coat protectively around her shoulders and sparks off an unlikely romance. The double K stars who were a real couple off-screen shared some sizzling screen chemistry and created some magical moments for soap buffs. Cutesy college sweethearts Anant (Shaheer Sheikh) and Navya (Soumya Seth) had their first rain sequence after marriage as they lovingly drank chai in a makeshift tea-stall, followed by some giggly moments and the inevitable dance sequence on Bheegi Si Bhaagi Si (Rajneeti). The adorable couple also copied a sequence from Jab We Met when they stole a man’s bicycle and took a rain ride.
It was a defining moment in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? when the heartless biz whiz Arnav Singh Raizada (Barun Sobti) saves Khushi (Sanaya Irani) from being run down by car in a heroic way by flying into the screens, as the two shared a warm hug, a long eyelock with the title track of the show playing in the background. Although not a love scene, the lead couple’s scorching chemistry was a TRP-tripper.

Set against a hospital backdrop, Dill Mill Gayyewas a medical romance which found a cult following among youngsters. Karan Wahi and Chhavi Pandey were the cute college buddies who met again and found love in an episode of Teri Meri Love Stories. Ritesh in a pristine white shirt (Karan) sings Teri Bindiya Re for Smita (Chhavi) who wore a cool blue saree ala Sridevi in Mr India. Chhavi and Karan were a picture perfect couple with their rocking screen vibes.
Monsoon magic in new shows
A long, slow run in the rain, a warm hug and a passionate kiss defined the rain sequence of Zain (HarshadArora) and wife Aaliya (PreetikaRao) in Beintehaa.
The rain gods had mercy on this young couple as Arjun (RithvickDhanjani) gathered courage to propose to Purvi (AshaNegi) to trigger off their romance.
Mohan (Kunal Karan Kapoor) and Megha (Akanksha Singh) inNa Bole TumNa Maine KuchKahawere one unlikely couple who had the audiences glued to their television screens. Their rain sequence was high on mush factor with all the telly cliches —a long eyelock, the moment of realization and a silent confession of love with a romantic number playing the background – this scene made for a perfect turn in their unusual love story!
Raghav (AshishChowdhry) and Kalpi (RachnaParulkar) had an intense romantic sequence when they confessed their love for each other in the pouring rain in EkMutthiAasmaan. In MadhubalaEkIshqEkJunoon season 2, after high drama there’s love brewing between Raju(Vivian Dsena) and Madhu (DrashtiDhami) who had their share of romantic moment in the rain holding an umbrella and sharing a loving eyelock as Tujh Me RabDikhtaHai played in the background.
