The Titanium Edge takes home the acclaimed Red Dot Award for Product Design for the consecutive second time

Bangalore-based Titan Company’s Watches Division’s revolutionary timepiece, the Titanium Edge has succeeded to win over the Red Dot jury two years in a row. 1,816 manufacturers, designers and architects from 53 nations entered their current projects and products in the competition for the Red Dot quality seal this year. In rigorous evaluation process lasting several days, the 40 members of the Red Dot jury have tested, discussed and evaluated 4,815 drafts – live and on-site. Due to the consistently high quality of the entries, it was not easy for the professionals to make their decisions. Only the best products were bestowed with the sought-after award for design excellence. The distinctive Titanium Edge Skeletal wristwatch by Titan Company Limited received an Honorable Mention at the Red Dot Awards: Product Design, 2014; making Titan Company Limited the only Indian company to win in the ‘Watches and Jewellery’ category.

With a Sandwich Movement of 1.15mm suspended between 2 sapphire glass crystals, it is composed of titanium which is light weight and very difficult to craft. Manufacturing and commercially making available an ultra slim water-resistant time piece is an achievement for Titan, as this has not been accomplished by many to date.”

Playing an important role in the design journey and speaking about his experience at this year’s Red Dot Awards in Essen, Germany, Mr. Sanil Dhadwal, Design Head – Accessories, Titan Company Limited, said, “The Titanium Edge timepiece is a design wonder and has been created with high precision. Known for being the slimmest quartz in the world, the award-winning Titanium Edge watch is not more than 4 mm thick and weight just 34 grams. The contoured matte case is fashioned from a single piece of titanium and houses a wafer thin jeweled analogue quartz. Supported by a skeletal framework, the eclipsed layout of the dial and transparent glass floor give the timepiece a look of airy transparency and delicate design. The watch is also available in a sporty version, designed with carbon fiber detailing and a sleek golf patterned leather strap to give it a contemporary look.

Titan also bagged top honours for its Edge Skeletal 02 at this year’s Tata Innovista awards. Tata Innovista is a programme held annually by the Tata Group Innovation Forum (TGIF) to encourage, recognise and showcase outstanding innovations done by Tata companies across the globe. This year, the event received over 1,700 entries from around 56 Tata companies.
