Soft tyre to be used at fast flowing Spa after summer break

Pirelli has revealed its next round of nominations for the tyre compounds to be used at the first three races following the summer break.
The first of those, the Belgian GP at Spa on August 22-24, will see a change in selection from last year with the Italian supplier opting to bring soft rubber as the weekend’s ‘option’ tyre. Last year the medium and hard tyres were used, but Pirelli believes the soft-hard combination will “be well-suited to the varied track and weather conditions often found in Belgium”.
For the following two races at the sharply-contrasting Italy and Singapore tracks Pirelli’s selections are more traditional with the hard and medium compounds to be taken to high-speed Monza and the soft and supersoft to the streets of Marina Bay in September.
“For Monza, the ‘temple of speed’ and Pirelli’s home event, the two hardest compounds in the range have been nominated: P Zero Orange hard and P Zero White medium,” Pirelli explained in a statement. “This is to combat the high-energy loads that are put through the tyres as the result of high traction and braking demands, sustained high speeds and frequently warm temperatures.
“Singapore is the final street circuit of the season and held at night, providing a unique combination of conditions. The two softest tyres in the range will be used: P Zero Yellow soft and P Zero Red supersoft. These will provide maximum mechanical grip.”
