KIDAPAWAN CITY, Philippines—Three elementary pupils from Midsayap, North Cotabato, have been chosen to represent the country in separate international Mathematics competitions in Singapore and Taiwan in August.

Eleven-year-old Gador, a Grade 4 student at the Midsayap Pilot Elementary School, will be competing against student Math wizards from different countries in the prestigious International Mathematics Guild in Singapore on August 1 to 4.

Third Grader Ostique and 5th Grader Austria are set to fly to Taiwan on August 9 to 13 in their attempt to best others in the World Mathematics Invitational Competition there.

During a courtesy call on the governor, the pupils said they would try their best to win.

“We will try our best to return home victorious and bring honor to our province and country,” Gador said in Filipino.

She said she has been doubling her efforts at studying because she considered this competition not just her own but also a fight for her class and parents.

“I will study harder to make my self better and I will do everything for this competition because I know this will not be an easy one. Right now, my parents, school and classmates are my inspiration,” Gador added.

Mendoza said the provincial government has been all out in supporting the competing pupils, adding that “it is an honor for the province to produce brilliant and excelling students.”

Aside from moral support, the provincial government also provided financial assistance to the students to help cover their expenses during the competition, she said.
