JHANSI: The Jhansi police caught an arms smuggler along with a bag full of arms and ammunition. The incident came to light in the intervening night of July 22 and 23 when Mauranipur SO Vikram Singh along with his team was on patrol in his area and rounded up a suspicious person. The man was identified as Dharmendra Ahirwar, 27 years son of Kedarilal, a terminated cop of UP police.
The accused has been into arms smuggling for quite some time.
On checking his bag, the team found a bag full of arms and ammunitions including one .315 bore rifle (made in Germany), a .32 bore pistol (made in England), two country made .315 bore hand gun, one .12 bore hand gun and bullets in heavy quantity. Each rifle costs around Rs 20,000 to 50,000, while a pistol was sold between Rs 30,000 to 50,000. The hand guns fetch anywhere around Rs 3,000 to 8,000.
As per SO, preliminary investigations reveal that Dharmendra is just a small part of a bigger racket whose operation area is spread up to Bihar or may be in other states too. Dharmandra along with one more accomplice, Virendra, who is absconding, used to bring these arms from Banda by passenger train and sell them in Garotha, Hamirpur, Tikamgarh and Lalitpur.
As per the information, Dharmendra was also caught in Garotha few years ago but was released. Meanwhile, he has been booked under 3/25 Arms Act and are now looking for his aides and customers.
