Gujarat is wet, 25% rain of normal season so far, levels at Ukai, Narmada up, underbridge closed in Amdavad

Ahmedabad, 24 July 2014

Thanks to heavy rain in upstream areas of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, the levels of water in Narmada and Ukai dams are continuously going up. While the latest level of water in Ukai dam is 304.65, the Narmada dam water level is up by 2 meters in 24 hours, and it is presently at 116.77 mark with continuous inflow of 1.96 lakh cusec.

Barring Kutch(that’s a sad part), all regions of Gujarat including south Gujarat, central Gujarat, Saurashtra, north Gujarat etc have experienced rain in this round of showers that kicked of in last 36 hours.

In Ahmedabad, Dakshini under bridge in Maninagar area was closed for traffic due to water logging. Closure of so and so under bridge has become benchmark of amount of pouring for Amdavadis. As other underbridges like Shahibaug, Parimal, Akhbarnagar etc are functional, Amdavadis would not consider to put present round of showers in ‘very heavy rain’ category. But pouring which started since yesterday evening and was intense during the night was substantial. City has completed its 21.38% rain of average normal monsoon season with this latest round of showers.

Shopkeepers in Bhadra area protested redevelopment of the area due to which there was fresh water logging which was never experienced before. Gates of Vasna barrage are opened for release of water which is very good news for farmers in downstream belt and their paddy crop.

In Nadiad, some schools observed holiday following heavy rain.

In Bharuch, one youth died after drowning in Fata reservoir. Junagadh-Visavdar highway faced blockage due to free fall in one lane.

The state has completed 25.83% of normal rain of monsoon season today morning. Kutch region is still having just 5% rain of entire normal season, that’s really a sad part.

According to IMD, parts of state will continue to witness heavy showers at places.
