Sanskrit teachers fight for dying language

The All Assam Sanskrit Tol Teachers' Employee Union has asked the government to fund ?tols' which are recognized by the Assam Sanskrit Board and the provincialization of the ?tols' recognized by Assam Sanskrit Board.

GUWAHATI: The All Assam Sanskrit Tol Teachers' Employee Union has asked the government to fund 'tols' which are recognized by the Assam Sanskrit Board and the provincialization of the 'tols' recognized by Assam Sanskrit Board.
The union also demanded for an individual director for the Sanskrit Board and the modernization of infrastructure of the recognized ?tols'. To see an increase in the students taking up Sanskrit as their major subject, the students should be encouraged by granting scholarships.
Secretary of the union, Nabajit Sharma, said, "We have 800 'tols' in Assam out of which 97 are provincialized and 88 of them got funds from the government. I want students to take up Sanskrit major."
