The video has been doing the rounds on social networking sites ever since it was posted on Wednesday morning

A home tutor was caught on a CCTV camera thrashing a three-and-a-half-year-old boy in an attempt to discipline him here on Wednesday.

According to the boy’s mother, who chose to hide her identity, tutor Pooja Singh would lock the door from inside while teaching her son which would be followed by loud wails by her son.

The boy’s mother registered a complaint with the Lake Town police station on Wednesday. According to the police complaint, Ms. Singh, who was hired to teach the boy on the recommendation of a friend, started teaching the boy from July 17.

“Ms. Singh would not allow anyone in the room when she was teaching my son and I would hear my son crying in the room. Initially, I brushed it off thinking that she was trying to discipline him,” the boy’s mother said.

However, when this continued the third day, the mother decided to check the footage from the CCTV camera installed in the room and found out that Ms. Singh had been assaulting her son. The CCTV footage showed Ms. Singh kicking the boy on his chest and hitting him on his head. Claiming that her son had bled from his eye and had suffered internal injuries after the incident, his mother said: “He has received injuries on his head and is traumatised. He has been refusing food since last [Tuesday] night. I have posted the video on social media with the intention of spreading awareness among parents, not to put Ms. Singh behind bars,” the mother said.

The video has been doing the rounds on social networking sites ever since it was posted on Wednesday morning. The footage also shows Ms. Singh opening the cupboards of the room. The mother alleged that Ms. Singh’s husband had threatened her with dire consequences if she dared to involve the police in the matter.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Debashish Dhar said: “We have received the complaint and have seen the CCTV footage. The case is under investigation.”

Accused repentant

Apologising for the incident, Ms. Singh said she had “learnt the lesson of her life” and was repentant for her actions. “I will think twice before touching my own daughter,” Ms. Singh said.
