Kanwariya rush throws traffic out of gear in Ghaziabad
GHAZIABAD: Traffic movement in the city was severely affected on Wednesday due to diversions enforced owing to the ongoing kanwar yatra. Office-goers and commuters travelling between Noida and Delhi from Ghaziabad were the most affected as certain stretches remained closed for vehicles.
For those travelling between Noida and Ghaziabad, the rush on NH-24 proved to be a big hurdle.
All arterial roads leading from NH-24 to Indirapuram, including the road near UP Gate, Kala Patthar, CISF and Sai Mandir crossing remained clogged with traffic. The traffic tail from the highway was seen spilling onto arterial roads. "What normally takes less than an hour of travel took me around two or more hours today. The traffic rush that occurs around this time every year can be avoided if the highway is widened," said K P Singh, a resident of Sector 93 in Noida who goes to work in Indirapuram.
The hold-up at CISF crossing in Indirapuram and Sector 62 crossing in Noida delayed several commuters, especially women struggling to meet their routines. "I could not reach my place of work in time today. Neither was I able to return home on time. My complete schedule has been in a haywire," said Shaili Singh, a teacher in Noida who lives in Indirapuram.
Commuters at the termination point of Delhi Metro in Vaishali were particularly troubled because there were no buses to link the Metro with other important points of the city like Vasundhara, Mohan Nagar, Hapur, New Bus Stand, Ghanta Ghar Kotwali, Old Bus Stand and Raj Nagar.
