The New York Knicks have waived guard Shannon Brown, team president Phil Jackson announced Wednesday.

Brown, 28, averaged 2.2 points and 1.0 rebounds over 29 games with the Spurs and Knicks last season. Brown's contract would have become guaranteed if he were on the roster on Aug. 1.

Drafted in the first round by Cleveland in 2005, Brown has had stints with seven teams.

He averaged a career-high 11.0 points with Phoenix during the 2011-12 season.

The Knicks won 37 games and missed the playoffs last season.
