Woman 'plotted' to get husband killed
DALTONGANJ: The hinterlands of Jharkand witnessed a shocking incident when a woman from the remote village of Shahpur in Palamu was accused of attempting to get her husband murdered.
Sarwari Khatoon hired three men to kill her husband, promising them a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh and a job in Mumbai.
On July 14, Sarwari's husband Upendra Chouhan was seriously injured in a shootout in Shahpur, when Sarwari was with him, providing herself with a perfect alibi to avoid suspicion of her involvement in the incident.
She lodged an FIR with the police, accusing three unknown people for attempting to kill her husband.
DSP Ajay Kumar said police smelt something fishy when Sarwari reported the incident to the police on July 14. They launched an investigation and suspected Sarwari's involvement in the shootout.
The police observed Sarwari's every move and kept an eye on everyone she contacted over the next few days. On July 21, they managed to nab the three shooters ? Ejaz Hajam, Gaddan Dhobi and Asghar Mansuri ? all residents of the village of Shahpur.
These men disclosed what the police had suspected all along and confirmed Sarwari's involvement in the incident.
Kumar said Hajam and Dhobi revealed that Sarwari had approached Asghar Mansuri with a contract to kill her husband and paid him Rs 6,000 as advance. The attack on Chouhan was botched up and he survived. He is currently undergoing treatment in RIMS at Ranchi.

Following the confession of the three convicts, the police nabbed Sarwari, describing her as the "prime conspirator" in the case, and sent all the four to judicial remand on Monday. The DSP revealed that another suspect, Kancha, a resident of Daltonganj, is still at large.
Police said Sarwari once lived in Mumbai, where she earned her living by doing embroidery.
After the death of her previous husband, Sarwari had fallen in love with Chouhan at Khelari after which she married him and moved to Shahpur in Palamu.
Although sources claim that it was Chouhan's suspicious nature that drove Sarwari to teach him a lesson and plot his murder, a substantial motive behind the conspiracy is yet to be found. "We are yet to ascertain as to what prompted her to take such an extreme step" said the DSP.
