Delighted to hear that Dulquer and I are compared to Mammootty and Sumalatha
Namitha Pramod’s foray into films was with the role of Thamara, a mature girl who lives on her own in a coastal village after her father fails to return from a fishing expedition.
In no time, she started getting several substantial roles in the industry. Now, Namitha’s kitty is full with a number of much anticipated projects with some of the leading actors in M-Town.
The actress, who has no starry airs, took time out to speak to us about playing a variety of roles, her preparations for her character in Vikramadityan, her dreams and more. Excerpts:
How was your experience working in Lal Jose’s mass entertainer, Vikramadityan?
The script and story of Vikramadityan bowled me over. In fact, each and every character in the movie has distinct attributes. I play Deepika Pai, a Konkani Brahmin girl, who is Vikram and Adityan’s friend. I had to pierce my nose to look the part. When Lal Jose narrated the story, he insisted that I should get my nose pierced. Initially, I thought I could manage with an artificial nose ring. But days before the shoot, he called me again and asked me whether I’ve pierced my nose or not. And I had to do it. Now, I totally love it.
How was it working with Dulquer and Unni?
It was total fun! The atmosphere was quite stress-free. Dulquer and Unni are awesome — they are friendly and easy going, and the ambience itself helped me to act effortlessly. In fact, I have had some amazing co-stars. Be it Chackochan (Kunchacko Boban), Dileepettan or Nivin, all are great to work with and I really look up to them.
You are often compared to yesteryear actress Sumalatha. What do you have to say about that?

Right from the start, people have told me the same. What’s more, during the shoot of Vikramadityan, many people said that Dulquer and I look good onscreen. In fact, some even said that Dulquer and I are like the evergreen pair of Mammootty and Sumalatha. And I was delighted to hear that!
Are you satisfied with the kind of roles coming your way?
I debuted in Sathyan Anthikad’s Puthiya Theerangal. Later, I did a slew of films in which I got to do a variety of roles. So I escaped being typecast. I want to do films of all genres. As an artiste, I am really satisfied with my role in the legal thriller, Law point, with Chackochan. I was quite thrilled to portray the role of an RJ in the upcoming film Villali Veeran.
Have you set any professional goals?
I secured 97 percent for my board exams, but my professional goals keep on changing on a daily basis (laughs). My parents have told me to stick to something I love. But as of now, I love teaching and I want to be a professor. I’ve taken up sociology for my graduation and want to pursue that. I have joined St Teresa’s College, Kochi, and the classes will start in August. But honestly, I have no idea how I am going to manage my studies and films. But I feel everything will fall in place soon.
What are your upcoming projects?
Currently, I am doing Villali Veeran with Dileep. I have also signed Anwar Sadiq’s movie, Orma Undo Ee Mugham, which stars Vineeth Sreenivasan in the lead. The love story will see me in the garb of a sand artist. Though I am getting many other offers, I haven’t committed anything yet.
