Nagaram sarpanch held for accepting bribe

Prameelamma, sarpanch of Nagaram village in Dharoor mandal of Ranga Reddy district was arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau officials (ACB) on Wednesday when she allegedly received Rs. 25,000 bribe from a contractor. Her brother-in-law, Ramakrishna Goud, through whom she accepted the bribe was also held, said ACB DSP, Hyderabad range, M. Prabhakar.

Nearly six months ago, Nagaram village panchayat unanimously passed a resolution to lay concrete roads on five stretches in the villages at an expenditure of Rs. 18 lakh. Road laying work on two stretches was allotted to Krishnaiah, the sarpanch’s husband. While one stretch with Rs. 5 lakh budget was assigned to a contractor M. Krishna Reddy and the remaining to two others.

As per procedure, the sarpanch should sign papers pertaining to the road laying work proposals and the village secretary would send the same to the executive engineer to release the work order.
