Bangalore to celebrate 15th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas

July 26 will mark the 15th anniversary of the Kargil Vijay Diwas. It was on this day the Indian soldiers successfully took back the territory that were occupied by the Pakistani intruders. Bangalore like the rest of the country will also celebrate this victory day solemnity and decorum.

A commemoration ceremony will be held to pay homage to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives during the Kargil operations in the year 1999. On the day at the National War Memorial on Raj Bhavan Road wreaths will be laid to pay homage to Soldiers.

Senior military officers and ex-servicemen would pay homage to the brave and valiant soldiers who sacrificed their lives to safeguard the territorial integrity of the country during the 73 day conflict which India fought against the Pakistani army and insurgents, said a war veteran.

In order to remember the sacrifices and in an effort to honour the soldiers and to instill a sense of responsibility and respect for the armed forces various events would be held in the city.
A large number of NCC cadets, School Children and College Students will attended the commemoration ceremony.

There is also a call on social media urging Bangaloreans especially youngsters to pay homage to the soldiers at the National War Memorial on July 26.

On 26 July 1999, at the end of a 73-day conflict, the Indian armed forces sent back the Pakistani invaders from Kargil, Drass, Tololing, Batalik and Turtok sectors in Kashmir to the other side of the Line of Control.
Victory in the war came at a heavy price with 527 soldiers killed and over 1700 injured.
Among those killed 20 were officers, 23 were Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and 475 were Jawans. Of the 1700 injured 66 were Officers, 60 were JCO's and 60 were Jawans.
