The airports in Hubli and Belgaum figure in the list of 50 airports in the country identified to promote regional air connectivity in tier II and tier III cities.

Minister of State for Civil Aviation G.M. Siddeshwara communicated this in reply to a question asked by a group of MPs, including Nalin Kumar Kateel, who represents Dakshina Kannada.

50 airports identified

The Minister listed eight airports in Uttar Pradesh, five airports in Maharashtra, four airports each in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Arunachal Pradesh, three in Rajasthan, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, two each in Karnataka, Bihar, Daman and Diu, Haryana, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh, and one each in Odisha, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Tamil Nadu.

The development of the airports would depend upon land made available by the respective State governments and assessment of traffic requirement, the Minister said.

The MPs had sought to know, among other things, whether there was any proposal for development of low-cost air connectivity across the country.
