GUWAHATI: In a joint operation by the Army and Police, a militant belonging to National Democratic Front of Boroland's Songbijit faction was killed in Phuljhora jungle on Monday.
The slain militant was identified as self-styled corporal B K Geremsha. He was the section commander of the Dhubri platoon of the outfit. One AK-56 rifle and ammunition were seized from his possession.
"He was working with the outfit for the last three years and had received training at Everest camp in Myanmar. He was reportedly involved in a number of subversive activities in Parbatjhora and Gossaigaon sub-divisions of Kokrajhar district," said a police official.
In a separate operation based on inputs from the Army's Gajraj Corps Intelligence unit, security forces defused a powerful IED at Parupota village in Sonitpur district on Tuesday. "The IED, planted by NDFB(S) cadres, could have caused loss of life and property," a security source said.
