Indian equities opened higher tracking positive global cues on Wednesday. At 9.18 a.m., the Sensex was trading up 114 points or 0.44% at 26,139.80 with 24 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 29.10 points or 0.37% at 7,796.95 with 40 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 104.46 points or 0.40% at 26,130.26.
Top gainers were Hindalco (1.57%), Coal India (1.36%), ICICI Bank (1.08%) and Infosys (1.07%).
Top losers were Tata Power (0.62%), Bharti Airtel (0.50%), Sun Pharma (0.49%) and Wipro (0.30%).
The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.25% and 0.20% respectively.
The Metal index was at 13,456.06, up by 85.52 points or by 0.64%. The Capital Goods index was at 15,817.94, up by 90.53 points or by 0.58%. The Bankex index was at 17,755.44, up by 91.97 points or by 0.52%.
