Gipson Appointed to Missouri Southern's Board of Governors

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) JOPLIN, Mo., July 22 -- Missouri Southern State University issued the following news release: Bill Gipson is quick to give credit to his alma mater when talking about his career.

"I've said this a number of times, but if it weren't for Missouri Southern, I don't think I would have been able to achieve what I was able to achieve," he said.

Gipson, whose 30-year career with Empire District Electric Company included serving as president and CEO, was recently appointed to a three-year term on the university's Board of Governors by Gov. Jay Nixon. Having graduated in 1978 with an associate's in computer science and in 1985 with a bachelor's in management technology, he said he considers it an honor to be able to serve the school in this new capacity.

"I hope that with my experience as a business manager and director I can be beneficial to Dr. Marble and the rest of the administration," Gipson said. "In my view, Dr. Marble has done a terrific job this last year reconnecting with the staff and faculty. We're poised to go gangbusters in all aspects of the university." A recipient of the 2002 Outstanding Alumni Award, he has served the university in a number of capacities throughout the years, including serving on the MSSU Foundation's board of directors and as the commencement speaker in May 2011. He and his wife, Tracy (a 1979 graduate), worked with the Student Senate to provide funding for the Lion Icon statue that serves as the centerpiece of the plaza in front of Billingsly Student Center.

Gipson's term on the Board of Governors will end on Aug. 30, 2017.
