City to give KJP to college students

A

cting Jakarta governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama said that the city administration would revise Gubernatorial Decree No. 190/2012 on the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP), to grant education assistance to college students.

'€œThe current KJP system does not increase the competitiveness of lower-income students because the education assistance is only given until senior high-school level. They still need a college education in order to get good jobs and improve their living conditions,'€ Ahok said in Jakarta on Monday.

Ahok, who will become governor once non-active governor Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo is sworn in as president, said his side would immediately revise the decree.

'€œThe selection for the college recipients will be very tight. We will only give financial support to those who are deserving of it and are willing to learn,'€ Ahok said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

This year, a total of 575,670 students will receive educational support from the city, with funds totaling Rp 723 billion (US$62.3 million).
