If bugs give you the creeps, you would do well not to stare too long and too hard at the photo above. Unless you have some serious work to do come nighttime and could sure use an adrenaline rush to keep you awake until morning.

According to Huffington Post, the insect featured in this image was recently discovered by a group of researchers exploring ecosystems on a mountain in China's Sichuan province. It's still unclear why these researchers didn't just run away the moment they laid eyes on it.

As one can easily notice, the insect is pretty big, especially when compared to a regular egg. In fact, word has it that, according to the researchers who found it, this creature is the largest aquatic creature the world has ever seen.

Information shared with the public says this insect belongs to an order known to the scientific community as Megaloptera. By the looks of it, adults belonging to this species can grow to measure 21 centimeters (8.2 inches across).

For the time being, detailed information concerning the insect's natural habitat and dietary preferences is lacking. One can only hope that, scary looks aside, it's not in the business of feeding on people's happiness, much like the Dementors in “Harry Potter.”
