MADURAI: The Madras high court Madurai bench on Tuesday passed orders summoning the deputy superintendent of police, Dindigul to appear before the court on Wednesday in connection with an alleged rape and murder case.
A widow S Palaniyammal from Mavathur village in Karur district has filed a petition before the court stating that her 17-year-old daughter who was working as a trainee nurse in Dindigul City Hospital was found dead in a suspicious manner.
She claimed that her daughter could have been raped and murdered by the hospital owner.
According to her, her daughter joined the hospital three months ago. On June 27, one Vijayalakshmi called the petitioner and introduced herself as a hospital worker and informed that her daughter had died of an heart attack.
When the petitioner rushed to the hospital, the hospital owner did not respond to her about her daughter's death. The petitioner's attempt to contact the woman, who contacted her over phone, went in vain. Further, the petitioner found injuries on her daughter's lips and face.
"We suspect that the hospital owner, who is also a doctor could have raped her with the help of the above said lady and killer her later," the petitioner claimed.
Further, the owner who is a politically and monetarily affluent person influenced the local police (Dindigul taluk police) and thus, the police who registered the case as suspicious death, did not conduct a proper inquiry, the petitioner charged.
When the matter came up before justice N Kirubakaran on Tuesday, the judge directed the deputy superintendent of police (Dindigul) and the investigation officer to appear before the court on Wednesday.
