CRPF officer, cop shunted out from Baltal

The Amarnath yatra has two treks, the traditional Pahalgam route and the shortest Baltal trek.

Two senior officers of J&K Police and CRPF have been shifted from Baltal base camp of Amarnath Yatra after they failed to prevent the incidents that led to clashes between the locals and sewadars of langars last Friday. Dozens of tents and langars were set on fire at Baltal, and 20 villagers sustained injuries following clashes between the locals and CRPF.

Officials said the in-charge Yatra Officer of J&K Armed Police 9th battalion Dushan Kumar and Commandant of CRPF 54 battalion S S Rawat have been shifted from the base camp and the new J-K Police officers Zubair Ahmad and Rajesh Kumar and P K Sandewar, from the CRPF have been posted there.

Apart from J&K Police, sources said, an additional company of the CRPF has also been deployed at the base camp. To review the situation Director General CRPF Dilip Trevidi visited Baltal on Tuesday.

On Friday after clashes broke out between locals and non local langars owners, Amarnath Yatra was suspended temporarily on the Baltal route. The Yatra resumed next day.
