After high hopes, the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) foray into Haryana politics has ground to a halt with the party on Tuesday announcing that it will not contest the forthcoming Assembly elections in the state. The decision was taken at the party’s working committee meeting in Karnal that was chaired by its Gurgaon Lok Sabha poll candidate Yogendra Yadav.
Party chief Arvind Kejriwal had last month hinted that the party would like to focus on Delhi and may not contest in Haryana, but AAP’s state working committee had differed with him. On Tuesday, however, the state working committee passed the resolution to not contest the polls and sent it to the party high command.
“The meeting focussed on the prevailing circumstances in Delhi. A decision was finally taken not to contest Haryana Assembly polls,” said AAP spokesperson Rajesh Godara.
