Emmy-nominated producer and TV veteran Tim Pastore has been named president of original programming & production, NGC U.S., of National Geographic Channel.
He is currently executive vice president of production & development for National Geographic Society production entity National Geographic Studios and will transition to the new position over the next four weeks, starting full time beginning Aug. 18, National Geographic Channels CEO Courteney Monroe announced Tuesday.
In his new role, he will oversee all development, production and production management for National Geographic Channel U.S., responsible for approximately 400 hours of content annually. Executive vice president of programming & strategy Heather Moran and senior vice president of programming & development Alan Eyres will work closely with and report to Pastore.
“Tim’s taste and sensibility for the National Geographic brand coupled with his incredible success in the factual cable entertainment landscape makes him the perfect person to help us realize the full potential of this network,” said Monroe in a statement. “As the creator of hit series including our very own Life Below Zero, I am excited to partner with Tim to create smart, brand definitional, original, entertaining fare our viewers will love.”

Pastore will be based in the New York office in Soho, overseeing the teams in New York, L.A. and Washington D.C. He will also work closely with Hamish Mykura for National Geographic Channels International and the NGCI team in London.
At National Geographic Studios, the exec was responsible for the development and execution of the studio’s production slate, including programming for NGC, Nat Geo WILD and PBS. He also had oversight of “Brain Games” and developed and exec produced upcoming series “Live Free or Die” and the recently announced “Mapology With Kal Penn.”
Before joining National Geographic Studios, Pastore was vice president of factual programming and production at BBC Worldwide Productions. He was also an executive producer in development and production of Discovery Channel’s “Gold Rush,” “Dual Survival” and Flying Wild Alaska,” and produced multiple seasons of “Deadliest Catch.”
