Badi Dooooor Se Aaye Hai: Comedy with an undercurrent of pathos
Unlike a typical comedy show, Indian television’s first alien-based show, Badi Dooooor Se Aaye Hai, has a strong undercurrent of pathos. Take the Ojha family for example.
Ex-army officer Murlidhar Ojha and his wife Lajwanti, played by Deepak Pareek and Neelam Pathania, are a happy-go-lucky Rajasthani couple. But nobody realises that deep inside, Murli is a broken man.
“My son, who was in the army, is dead, but I have to hide it from my wife as she is a heart patient.
And then, a thief breaks into our house and steals the jewellery. We then get busy trying to nab him,” says Deepak.

Adds Neelam, “My character is shown planning to go to Siachen, to meet her son, but it gets cancelled after the theft.” Hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, it was difficult for Neelam to get the Marwari dialect right. “But since Deepak is from Rajasthan, he helped me a lot,” she concludes.
Badi Dooooor Se Aaye Hai airs Monday to Friday 9.30 pm on SAB TV.
