Juventus will ask Chelsea to let them have Romelu Lukaku on loan this season - and give him the chance to finish his footballing education in the Champions League.

Everton are keen on a second loan spell for the Belgian striker, who alienated Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho with his public comments while spending last season at Goodison Park.

Although Lukaku is due to join up with the west Londoners for the second half of their pre-season European tour following his World Cup exploits, his chances of making the first-team rotation for the coming campaign are slight.

Mourinho only wants three out and out strikers, with newcomer Diego Costa his main man and Fernando Torres set to be joined in a back-up role by the returning Didier Drogba , who has been offered a 12-month playing contract, but with no coaching role.

That leaves Lukaku likely to be surplus to requirements again, and while Chelsea might listen to offers in excess of £25million they seem keener to send him out on loan again.

They believe Lukaku, who scored a total of 32 goals in year-long loan spells at West Brom and Everton, is still short of the finished article and that a season where he plays at a higher standard could be defining for the striker.

Italian champions Juventus, who have lost newly-signed Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata for up to two months with a knee injury sustained in training on Monday, will now step up their interest.

Samuel Eto'o, released after one season at Chelsea, is another option for new Juve boss Maximiliano Allegri.

But the Belgian is 12 years younger than Eto'o, and the fact that they can offer Lukaku both Serie A and Champions League football will appeal to Chelsea as well.

While there is some hope Lukaku can still emerge as a Chelsea player for the future, the Stamford Bridge club suspect his value will only rise by next summer if he can take the step up - meaning it's a win-win situation.
