Congress stages walkout alleging ration card irregularities

The Opposition Congress on staged a walkout from the Chhattisgarh Assembly today alleging irregularities in issuance of ration cards in the state.

Raipur: The Opposition Congress on staged a walkout from the Chhattisgarh Assembly on Tuesday alleging irregularities in issuance of ration cards in the state.

Raising the issue during question hour, senior Congress MLA Satyanarayan Sharma sought to know how many ration cards were issued to ineligibles and cancelled in Durg, Raipur, Bilaspur and Rajnandgaon districts during May-June 2014.

He also asked?about the number of complaints about fake ration cards received and action?taken on these case.

In his reply, Chhattisgarh Food and Civil Supplies Minister Punnulal Mohile said that eligibility criteria of those ration cards which were found ineligible during investigation last month would be decided after hearing claims and objection over it.

So the final figure of cancellation of ration cards would be known after this process, he said.

Unsatisfied about his reply, Satyanarayan Sharma said quoting media reports that lakhs of ration cards of poor people have been cancelled and they are in trouble.
Sharma also said that he would refer the issue to the Questions and Reference Committee of the House.

Later, other Congress members joined him on the issue and blamed the state government for allegedly issuing ration cards to a large number of families before assembly and Lok Sabha elections and now cancelling these.
