PA: CATA Sets New Ridership Record in FY 2013/14

The Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA) announced that in the Fiscal Year 2013/14, which came to an end on June 30, CATABus fixed-route annual ridership climbed to a record high of 7,352,133, easily eclipsing the previous record of over 7.1 million rides set in FY 2009/10.

The Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA) announced that in the Fiscal Year 2013/14, which came to an end on June 30, CATABus fixed-route annual ridership climbed to a record high of 7,352,133, easily eclipsing the previous record of over 7.1 million rides set in FY 2009/10.

This number demonstrates a 3.4 percent increase in ridership over FY 2012/13, and a 9.7 percent increase in CATABus Community Service alone. The largest gains have been on the HP Route, which is up 40.2 percent, the M Route, up 32.3 percent, and the W Route, up 56.8 percent.

Ridership on the CATARide program, which primarily serves persons age 65 and over and persons with disabilities, has grown by 4 percent. And CATACommute, with its ridematching, vanpool and emergency ride home programs for long-distance commuters, continues to grow with the number of persons registered in the program increasing by approximately 9.5 percent to over 2,500, and 44 vanpool groups on the road, up from 29 just two years prior.
