Goway has introduced a new river cruise option, offering travellers a chance to sail the Ganges, India’s most sacred river, on board the newly refurbished RV Rajmahal.
“This is a great new product. River cruising has become increasingly popular and this is really one of the first river cruises of its kind to travel down the iconic Ganges,” says Maureen Atkinson, product and marketing manager for Goway Travel.
The cruising experience allows passengers to see some cities typically not on most India itineraries due to accessibility, cities like Chandernagore, Hooghly, Nabadwip, Mayapur, Murshidabad, Baranagar, Jangipur, Pandua and Karakka. Travellers will also get to take guided walks among 19th century buildings, visit a Matiari brass working village, take a rickshaw tour in Chinsura and see Kalna’s eye catching Shiva temple, as well as visit Hazarduari Palace.
And a trip in India is never complete without a local train ride. This trip also includes first class train travel between Kolkota to Farraka or vice versa depending on the departure.
The RV Rajmahal took its maiden voyage in February. It comes complete with 22 spacious cabins, each with its own French balcony. Facilities include a spa, a saloon, a dining room and a 360-degree sun deck allowing passengers to take in the Indian countryside.
Prices for the nine-day Lower Ganges Cruise start at $2,595 per person, twin bases, with select departures.
