Come late September, visual journalists will be catching flights to Frankfurt, the host city for this year’s Society for News Design (SND) workshop.

Imagery has become an integral aspect for the publishing industry, and the conference will bring the best of print and online innovation focusing on news journalism. With the integration between text and images, it’s a must to understand — and embrace — the changes of news design.

Germany is home to some of the best designed newspapers — Die Zeit, Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, Welt am Sonntag and Der Freitag, all of whom recent winners in the SND Creative Competition.

Some of them have earned this honor more than once. This is the first SND conference in Europe in 15 years.

“I am very happy that SND’s annual gathering will be in Europe again for the first time in 15 years,” said Stefan Knapp, the conference chairman. “Frankfurt is not only the most international city in Germany, but also represents one of the most creative regions known for its news design.”

The Middle East too has a special role for the creative design industry. The high level of creativity within regional publications is significant.

The SND Frankfurt conference — from September 25 to 27 — will have a special session on the Middle East trends.
