CCNY Hosts American Advertising Federation AdCamp for Second Year

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NEW YORK, July 21 -- The City University of New York's City College of New York issued the following news: AdCamp, an exclusive program established by the American Advertising Federation (AAF) to introduce high school students of diverse backgrounds to advertising and communications professions, returns to The City College of New York, July 27 - August 1.Nineteen top students from around the nation, including Chicago, Mexico City and Fayetteville, Ga., were selected by the AAF for the camp following a competitive application process.

The program made its New York City debut at City College last summer. AAF has conducted AdCamp programs in Chicago and Washington.

Melissa Wong, AAF director for training and development, said the Washington-based trade association chose to partner with CCNY again because of its active campus AAF chapter.

Nancy Tag, associate professor in CCNY's advertising/public relations program, will serve as faculty coordinator of the intensive week-long industry immersion. Joanna Ventour and Antonia Chisholm, both Ad/PR majors at CCNY, will serve as interns.

Said Professor Tag: "CCNY has one of the best advertising programs in the country - and being based in New York City makes the campus an attractive place to learn the discipline. This certainly accounts for the high number of students from outside the metropolitan area." In addition to campus lectures and work sessions, the young participants will have two industry immersion fieldtrips to advertising agencies including Deutsch, Y&R, and Saatchi & Saatchi. There they will attend info sessions with professionals whose jobs they are trying to mimic.

The AdCamp also entails preparing campaigns, presentations, conducting market research and developing a communications strategy including a 15-second TV commercial. Final presentations will be in front of an audience of family, friends, industry professionals and representatives from organizations such as The AD Club, the 4A's, and AAF.
