Following Prophet Mohammed’s teachings will ensure that India remains a haven of peace, Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa said at an ‘Iftar’ party she hosted here on Monday.
Ms. Jayalalithaa pointed out the Prophet not just sermonised virtues but also lived by them. The holy month of Ramadan was “spring season’’ to the followers of the Prophet. Fasting bestowed spiritual grace and divine blessings on an individual. In Islam, fasting during the sacred period was the key to the gateway of heaven, she noted.
Dwelling on the values emphasised by Islam, Ms. Jayalalithaa said the religion stressed unity, brotherhood, endowment, courtesy, benevolence and restraint. Following those virtues, emphasised by the Prophet, would ensure a peaceful society.
The need to relate to God was to cultivate the intrinsic worth of a being and all religions lay emphasis on that aspect, she said.
Those who participated in the ‘Iftar’ party included the Chief Kazi (Sunni) Mufti Dr. Haji Salauddin Mohammed Ayub, Chief Kazi (Shia) Haji Ghulam Mohammed Mehadigan, AIADMK party presidium chairperson E. Madhusudanan, Finance Minister O. Panneerselvam, Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Minister S. Abdul Rahim, Anna Salai Durgah Trustee Syed Moinuddin, Prince of Arcot Nawab Mohammed Ali and leaders of the ruling party’s allies.
Chairperson of the Tamil Nadu Wakf Board A. Tamilmagan Hussain and AIADMK Minorities Wing secretary A. Anwar Razza were among those who spoke.
