Reacting to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s claim that in the next general elections, the BJP will not be getting any seat in the State, BJP State president Rahul Sinha rubbished her comment here on Monday.
Talking to journalists at the BJP State headquarters, Mr. Sinha said Ms. Banerjee is scared of the BJP as she has made the ruling party at the Centre the prime target of her attack.
“Ms. Banerjee is panicking because of the tremendous rise of the BJP in Bengal,” said Mr. Sinha. He trashed Ms. Banerjee’s allegation of the BJP being a communal force. Mr. Sinha said that those who publicly appease a minority community for vote-bank politics are to be regarded communal.
“We are condemning the tactics of appeasement adopted by the Trinamool. By indulging in such vote-bank politics, the Chief Minister herself is creating communal divide in the State,” said Mr. Sinha.
Claiming that bonhomie has started between Ms. Banerjee and the Left parties, Mr. Sinha said the two arch rivals [Trinamool and CPI (M)] of different ideology can join hands when it comes to a common opponent, the BJP.”
Mr. Sinha declared that the BJP would organise a rally on November 30 to commemorate the day as Utthan Divas (day of rising) at the same place where the Trinamool observed Martyrs’ Day.
State Left Front Committee chairperson Biman Basu alleged that CPI (M) MLA Chaya Dalui, who joined the Trinamool earlier in the day, was forced to do so by the ruling party in the State. Mr .Basu claimed that because of the threats issued by Trinamool cadre, Ms. Dalui was forced to confine herself to home and her livelihood was in jeopardy. “Ms. Dalui was put in such a predicament that she was left with no choice but to join the Trinamool. This was done under duress.”
Mr. Basu dubbed Ms. Banerjee’s remarks about taking action against anyone who indulges in wrong doing an attempt to conceal the misdeeds of her party leaders. Referring to Ms. Banerjee’s call to those who believe in the Left ideology to join the Trinamool, Mr. Basu asked, “What kind of ideology it is to force an elected representative to switch political allegiance by means of intimidation?”
