Noida family’s death still a mystery, husband a suspect

July 22, 2014 10:41 am | Updated 10:41 am IST - NOIDA:

The police on Monday went through CCTV footage and call records to ascertain if the man who was found charred to death in his car on Saturday had killed his young family, whose bodies were discovered the following day.

The body of a man was found in a burnt WagonR on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway on Saturday evening. While DNA results are pending, the police are confident it is Nitin Rohilla, a mechanical engineer working with Yamaha. His wife, Parul, and their four-year-old daughter Aishi were found murdered at their fourth-floor flat at Sector 120 on Sunday.

“The needle of suspicion points to the husband as Parul’s brother got a call from him on Saturday, saying the couple had a fight and everything was over. We are trying to corroborate the brother’s version with CCTV footage and call records,” said Gautam Buddh Nagar Senior Superintendent of Police Preetinder Singh.

On Monday, a team led by Circle Officer (City Second) Vishwajeet Shrivastava went through surveillance videos at the 14-tower complex where the Rohilla family lived. Superintendent of Police (City) Yogesh Singh said the post-mortem examinations of the mother and daughter and the man’s DNA profiling were being done.

While the Noida Police have narrowed down on Nitin for the murders of his wife and daughter, what happened to him still remains a mystery. Discounting suicide as a theory, SP (Rural) Brijesh Kumar Singh said: “Eyewitnesses said there was a loud noise and the moving car erupted in flames.”

Meanwhile, neighbours of the Rohillas were still in shock a day after the bodies were found. A woman who lives adjacent to their three-bedroom flat said she was still “disturbed”.

“The smell was so disturbing, I’m still in shock,” said the neighbour. She said the Rohillas, who moved into the flat in March, were like “any other normal” family. “Their daughter was a beautiful and active child, and she used to play with my daughter,” said the emotional neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous.
