KANPUR: Several houses in the irrigation department's colony, located near Panchakki crossing in Mall road, got cracked on late evening on Sunday when the water from a broken pipeline gushed into their houses. The pipeline got damaged as a result of deep digging of a pit.
ADM (City) Avinash Singh and other district officers officials reached the spot and informed the KDA officials.
Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) is constructing a multi-storeyed underground market and multi-level parking neat Panchakki crossing. Without taking necessary precautions, the labourers hired by a contractor while digging a deep pit, broke the main water pipeline and soon the entire pit turned into a pool.
Local corporator Neena Awasthi alleged that the contractor had not taken any precaution while digging the pit and in the process the main pipeline got damaged. The residents of the irrigation colony on the other hand alleged that the pit is being dug up very close to the base of their houses due to which cracks appeared in the walls. Several residents now apprehend that their houses would now come in the danger zone.
