Rakesh Sharma becomes only serving Lt Gen of J&K

JAMMU, July 21: Born in a small village ‘Sunjwan’ in Jammu on January 9, 1957, the son of the soil, Major General Rakesh Sharma has been promoted to the rank of a Lieutenant General in the Indian Army, recently.
After getting a rank of a Lieutenant General, Mr Rakesh has taken over the prestigious Officers Training Academy (OTA) Gaya on July 10, 2014.
Born in a modest family, Mr Rakesh, for his passion and love to join Army since his childhood, had received the sobriquet ‘fauji’ in his family.
He is an alumnus of the Sainik School Jamnagar in Gujarat and after passing class 12th  from there, he joined NDA Khadakvasla, where he was awarded the prestigious five star torch for his brilliance.
A hardcore professional and an all terrain soldier, Mr Rakesh was commissioned in JAKLI Regiment in 1978 and commanded Mamun Brigade and Ferozepur Divison.
Mr Sharma has the honour of receiving Sena Medal and numerous Commendation Cards for his gallantry and devotion to duty.
When contacted, Rakesh Sharma, who has made the State of Jammu and Kashmir proud said that serving the country was his ardor, so becoming the only serving Lieutenant General of the State was an amazing feeling rather a feeling of extreme ecstasy.
