JAMMU, July 21: Minister for R&B, Abdul Majid Wani today directed for clearing the landslides along historical Mughal Road within 15 days which are creating hindrance in smooth movement of traffic on the alternate road link connecting the Kashmir and Jammu divisions through Rajouri and Poonch.
The Minister issued the directions while chairing a meeting of senior functionaries of R&B, PMGSY and other concerned departments convened to review the pace of progress on various developmental projects in the border districts of Poonch and Rajouri, besides Inderwal constituency of Kishtwar district.
MLA Inderwal, G.M. Saroori and MLA Rajouri, Shabir Ahmed Khan present in the meeting raised the issues pertaining to the ongoing road projects in their respective areas.
Responding to the issue of the problems faced by the commuters while travelling on Mughal road due to narrow stretches, the Minister said that rubles and landslides along the road would be removed for the smooth movement of the traffic. For this, he set 15 day deadline to clear the partial blockades where ever necessary.
Reviewing the scheme wise development works, the Minister asked the executing agencies to make every effort to achieve the set targets within a stipulated time frame.
The meeting reviewed road projects taken up under NABARD, Prime Minister Grameen Sadak Yojna (PMGSY). The Minister sought detailed report about the status of each road project and discussed the issues hampering the work.
The Minister said that the Government of India has authorized the maintenance of existing and construction of new roads to State Government. He said that the Government was looking forward to take up work on all important roads soon to develop a vast road network to achieve hundred percent road connectivity in the state.
The meeting also discussed the status of the Rajouri-Thannamandi road. The Minister said that the road would be soon taken up by the R&B to ensure early completion of the project.
He asked the officers to closely monitor the development projects to remove the bottlenecks if any hampering these works.
The MLAs stressed the need for expediting the works on all ongoing roads and also called for completing those which have little work left and are abandoned for one or other reason.
Later, the Minister inspected the pace of work on 200 bedded Government Maternity Hospital at Gandhi Nagar, Aircraft Hanger with Annex building for civil aviation being constructed near Jammu Air port.
The Minister also inspected the progress on the alternate road being constructed from MH to Niki Tawi area via Beli-Charana. The 5.85 km road with four bridges is estimated to cost Rs 21 crore. The Minister was informed that Rs 11 crore have been spent on the project so far.
While inspecting the pace of work on these projects, the Minister directed the executing agencies to ensure use of quality material and time line completion of the projects.
