There seems to be no respite to Chief Minister Prithiviraj Chavan who is yet to recover from the Narayan Rane episode. Now, Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers Organization (MFUCTO) have demanded immediate dismissal of his government from President Pranab Mukherji on the grounds that the state violated the constitution by not complying with the Supreme Court orders.

Over 1,500 professors, staged a protest at Azad Maidan on Monday pressing their demand for dismissal of the government, courted arrest and were released later by the police. Pouncing on the opportunity, BJP leader and MLC Vinod Tawde met the agitating teachers and promised to resolve their issues if BJP came to power.

Aggrieved professors have already announced that they wouldn’t meet any representative of the government they didn’t have faith in the authority.

After maintaining silence for almost a year, the association of 45,000 plus professors has launched an all-round attack on the government. A group of social work professors have already started a hunger strike for pension-related issues in Karad which is the CM’s home town.
While the officials of Higher and Technical Education Department say that professors are increasing the pressure as assembly polls are nearing, the union claims that the government has cheated them.

CR Sadasivan, member of the union said, “We are not demanding anything from the government this time. We want president to dismiss this government as it has failed to hold the constitution by noncompliance of the orders of SC, HC and even the apex higher education body-UGC.”

The union claims over 21 orders of the courts and UGC were in their favour yet state government denied them the benefits of higher salary grades.

“We are yet to receive our salary of from March-April 2013 when we did not cooperate with exam work. The NET/SET qualified teachers issue also remains to be worked out completely,” said a union member.
The union has decided to intensify their stir against the government.
