I will never take up any probe if this case fails test of trial: DIG on Mohanlalganj rape-murder case
LUCKNOW: The demand for CBI probe into Mohanlalganj sexual assault and murder case by victim's family on Monday got support from several organizations and political parties. However, they were doubtful over police inquiry so far. The police remained defiant with Deputy Inspector General Navniet Sekera announcing that he will never take up any other investigation if proven wrong in this one.
The police also said that it has so far not received any letter from the victim's family on CBI inquiry.
The police had on Sunday claimed that the widowed woman was brutally killed by a security guard after failing to rape her. However, victim's father demanded CBI probe saying that the tell tale signs on the spot contradict police theory of one man committing the crime.
On Monday, BSP chief Mayawati in an statement in New Delhi supported the demand of CBI probe accusing UP government of trying to mislead the people. Several social and human rights organisations including People's Union for Civil Liberties held demonstration at GPO park demanding CBI probe. PUCL state general secretary Vandana Mishra blamed feudal mindset and insensitivity towards women prevalent in the administration for rising crime against women in the state. CPI leader Atul Kumar Anjan was also present.
Volunteers of the Aam Aadmi Party staged demonstration for the third consecutive day. On Sunday, police had cane charged volunteers leaving many injured. On Monday, national executive member and UP incharge Sanjay Singh led the agitation. Supporting demand of CBI probe, AAP demanded raising of financial assistance to two orphan children of the victim from Rs 10 lakh announced by the government to Rs 50 lakh.
The BJP also said that the demand of the family members should be taken care of and a CBI inquiry should be ordered. Since the senior officials continuously changed their statement, the cracking of the case thus has become doubtful, BJP spokesperson Vijay Bahadur Pathak said and added that senior officials had stated that as per circumstantial evidence it looked to be a case where more than one person was involved. However, after the police cracked the case and claiming the involvement of only one person was strange, Pathak further said.

Responding to the widespread criticism, DIG, Lucknow, Navniet Sekera tweeted "I will never take up any other investigation if Mohanlalganj crime investigation fails the test of trial." Sekera tweeted the same text again addressing it to former IPS officer Kiran Bedi. The latter had criticized UP government on crime against women through her tweets.
On the issue of CBI probe, "IG Law and Order Amrendra Sengar told newspersons, "We have not yet received any letter from the family members of the victim demanding CBI inquiry. A decision will be taken after getting a written communication."
