To the couplets of the seminal work of early 19th century Lebanese poet Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet, newbies Rimple and Harpreet Narula made their debut at the couture week with a superbly finished line that paid tribute to the fine art of jaali work, as peek-a-boo seemed to be the flavour of the season.
The Ludhiana-raised Harpreet understood what real luxury signifies when he brought in French paisley and Iranian shawls as well as antique jamevars, kilim prints and added them on to his laser cut jackets.

The husband-wife duo kept the palette artful with beiges rubbing shoulders with ivories, along with rushes of gold, abandoning the need for any bright hue. The juxtaposition of rough and soft – fabric cord strips moulded into jackets with hand block printed robes, gave it a fantastical edge. “For us, it was more of an artistic expression, so you will not see any commercial angle in this line. We have priced everything between `1 lakh and `5 lakh,” says Harpreet.
Clever touches like sheer backs, fringed ends and cascading pearl tassels revved up the applique, resham, Ajrakh prints and beadwork in a silhouette that was deliberately kept longer and cut away from the body with robes, chogas, Anarkalis, achkans and Farshi pants exuding the grandeur of the architectural magnificence of Morocco through the deft embroideries.
The duo could have sailed through with an A grade without the lovely Bollywood beauty Huma Qureshi as a sprightly showstopper, as their Arab-esque ode was weighty enough to make an impact.
