HC direct RMC to act against slaughter house

The slaughter house is allegedly running without obtaining the mandatory permissions from A.P. Pollution Control Board

July 21, 2014 11:56 pm | Updated 11:56 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

A division bench of Hyderabad High Court comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice P. V. Sanjay Kumar on Monday directed the Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation (RMC) to take action against the slaughter house in Jampet, Rajahmundry, which is allegedly running without statutory permissions.

The bench was dealing with a writ petition filed by the Animal Rescue Organisation secretary Gopal Rao Surabathula. He contended that the slaughter house had not got permission from the A.P. Pollution Control Board. The Prevention of Cruelty to Animal (slaughter House) Rules, 2001 has been grossly violated, especially in case of determination of number of animals to be slaughtered and absence of veterinary doctor to certify animals, he argued.

The court recorded the submission made by the RMC that it had not accorded permission for slaughtering of animals. The bench gave eight weeks to the Corporation to act as per law to the persons running the slaughter house.
