Schalke defender Atsuto Uchida will likely be sidelined for two to three weeks with inflammation in his right knee, Kicker magazine reported on Monday.

Uchida, 26, received the diagnoses after returning to the Bundesliga club for a practice on July 17, following a break after the World Cup in Brazil.

The Japan defender sustained a right-thigh injury and an injury to a tendon in his right knee in February this year but underwent treatment and rehab in Japan rather than having the surgery his club had recommended in order to play in Brazil.
