Matthew Macklin will face Jorge Sebastien Heiland in Dublin on August 30 in a final eliminator for Miguel Cotto's WBC middleweight belt.
The Birmingham-born Irishman will top a National Stadium bill - live on Sky Sports - featuring Olympic gold medallist Anthony Joshua and is within one win of a fourth world title fight in less than four years.
A split decision went Felix Sturm's way back in 2011 before Macklin came up short against Sergio Martinez and suffered a heavy defeat to Gennady Golovkin.
Macklin recruited former opponent Jamie Moore as trainer in the wake of that three-round knockout last June and made a winning return against Lamar Russ in December.
He said: "It's great to have an eliminator to put me straight back in the frame for another world title fight.
"Heiland is rated No 4 with the WBC so I'm sure he will be coming to Ireland with his own world title ambitions. It's a must win fight for me and it doesn't matter what he brings to the ring on August 30, he won't be beating me."
Promoter Eddie Hearn said: “We've seen Matthew deniedwhat I believe was a victory in Germany against Sturm and a great performance against Sergio Martinez.
"The Cotto fight would be a great event. He is straight back in at the deep end against Heiland but - let’s be honest - he wouldn't want it any other way!"
Macklin last fought in Dublin in 2009, and he said: "While it's been great having big fights in New York and Las Vegas I've definitely missed fighting at home.
"There's a huge appetite among boxing fans to see big time boxing back in Dublin and there's no atmosphere in the world like an Irish fight night. I know that Eddie can deliver the big fights for me in Dublin so it's a very exciting time for me."
Heavyweight Joshua will pursue an eighth straight professional win against Ukraine's Yaroslav Zavorotnyi, who went 10 rounds with David Price in June, and Matchroom's first Dublin bill also features Commonwealth super-flyweight champion Kal Yafai.
Belfast's Luke Wilton will challenge Yafai, while Irish middleweight rivals Anthony Fitzgerald and Spike O'Sullivan face each other.
