Superbike maker, DSK Hyosung, a joint venture of DSK Motowheels and S&T Motors of South Korea plans to increase superbike sales in India this year. The company, which sold around 1851 bikes last year, plans to sell 3000 units of different variants this year.

According to senior company official, upcoming three months of festive season would boost superbike sales in the country. The company has set its focus on Gujarat.

DSK Hyosung plans to sell 100 units in Gujarat in the next three months. In order to achieve the target, DSK Hyosung, which currently has two showrooms in the state each at Surat and Ahmedabad would set up extension centres in four cities to reach out to maximum number of customers in other parts of the state.

Beginning with capacity of 250 cc, starting price of Hyosung bikes is Rs 2.63 lakh ex-showroom. “Gujarat is a rich state and we see increasing interest for superbikes among young customers. We have planned to open four extension centres across the state each at Rajkot, Vadodara, Navsari and Bharuch,” Shivapada Ray, COO DSK Hyosung told BusinessLine here. DSK Hyosung sells around 210-220 units per annum in Gujarat.

According to Ray, with growing income levels and aspirations of young generation, India’s superbike market, which is estimated to be around 10,000 units per annum, will see high grow in coming months.

Currently, all the DSK Hyosung units are Completely Knocked Down (CKD) units, which are assembled at its plant near Pune.

Ray also indicated that the company will foray into 125cc and 150cc segment of bikes with lesser price. These bikes will be made at the company’s proposed plant at Karad in Maharashtra. “It will bring down our cost by localisation. People will be able to possess DSK Hyosung brand at lesser price than what they pay now,” said Ray.

DSK Hyosung currently has 4-5 products in the range of 250 cc to 700 cc in the price range of up to Rs 7 lakh ex-showroom.
