The issue of children being exposed to too much radiation from modern devices should be tackled immediately, the Indian Academy of Pediatricians reported.

MOSCOW, July 21 (RIA Novosti) - The issue of children being exposed to too much radiation from modern devices should be tackled immediately, the Indian Academy of Pediatricians reported.

“The array of gadgets that [is] now available is dangerous. In the long run, it can be hazardous for the child's cognitive development,” Dr. Shilpa Aroskar, a consulting pediatrician and neonatologist, was quoted as saying by Indian newspaper The Times of India.

“Mobiles emit radiations which penetrate the child's brain in higher amounts. The International Association of Cancer Research has classified cell phones as possibly carcinogenic. It’s time parents took these threats seriously,” she added.

Long hours of watching television at a young age can affect the cognitive and neural sensor development of a child and results in higher incidences of autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has already recommended the prohibition of screen media for children below 2 years old. Dr. Aroskar suggests the same guidelines for India.
